Domaine de Ménard is a wine estate steeped in tradition and innovation since its foundation in 1920 by Jean François Morel. Originally from Switzerland and with a deep passion for viticulture, Jean François chose the fertile Gascogne region to cultivate his first 10 hectares. In 1960, a new chapter began with the arrival of Denise, Jean François’ daughter, and her husband Jean Jegerlhener. Sharing a common passion for wine, the couple expanded the vineyard and built the first cellars, which are now at the heart of the estate. Today, their son Philippe and daughter Elisabeth (a talented oenologist) have propelled the estate to new heights. The vineyard is rooted in an exceptional and ancient terroir, with plots situated on a former marine geological site—fossils can still be found among the vines. On shallow, stony clay-limestone soils, the estate grows Colombard, Ugni Blanc, and Sauvignon Blanc for crisp, dry white wines. On deeper, sandy soils, late-harvested Petit and Gros Manseng grapes yield wines of remarkable finesse and aromatic complexity.
