La Trucha

Rias Baixas, Spain

Our Story

The name La Troucha (the trout) pays homage to the fish that the winemaker and owner, Jose Alonso, used to fish with father and grandfather in the Minho River as a child. The winery, Notas Frutales, is located in the Easternmost area of Rias Baixas along the Minho River. Being the furthest from the Atlantic in the entire DO allows the winds from ocean to arrive attenuated but still allowing the grapes to collect their salinity. The winemaker, Jose, works with his wife, Teresa, and sister-in-law, Elena, to farm the 13 hectacres planted at 600 to 1,050 ft. The vines range in age from 25 to 45 yrs old.
